Differently

My 3 dimensional work makes use of found objects as the foundation for applying collage and mixed media. What are such things as found objects that capture my attention? Rusty metal is a favorite, chunks of wood, bamboo, or plastic parts: things that have been part of something else with known or unknown origin or function. They have DONE SOMETHING. Even better if the objects are weathered, battered by time or circumstance. They have LIVED and even SUFFERED. That previous life contributes to their beauty, personality and story that is layered into my work.

"Found objects" can be discovered anywhere and everywhere--alongside the road, on the beach, in a boatyard, a thrift store, or gifted from a friend. The discovery experience adds a chapter to the story. Sometimes a weird object calls out to me.

"Take me home! You'll figure out a creative use for me---eventually". An object may dwell in a box or on a shelf for years, when suddenly I come upon it, and call it into my creative process.
What a joy when that happens, and double happiness when I realize what I can and will do with it.

Facing East

The Golden Egg is presente in a lofty position upon an ornate pedestal. The wrapped electric cord implies that energy travels to the lamp pedestal. However this is the Lamp of the Golden Goose. No such logic operates here. Just the beauty of the Golden Egg.

This alternative planet has its own oceans and topography. Mysterious symbols and markings name the continents. Examine closely and ask your own questions about who and what lives here. Where and how are infinite possibilities.

Intricately patterned black and white plumage adorns the rare Avius Abstractus Plumeri. Perched in bare winter branches he is perfectly and safely camouflaged. (Galleries dropdown Three dimensional art)

Trees, fences, and power poles tap their repetitions of roadside rhythms in harmony with a glowing sunset.

Roadside Rhythms

Underlying the ocean's cold depths is the Earth's molten core. Sometimes the glowing magma burst forth or oozes onto the land or into the sea, just to remind us of its hidden powerful presence. The Sun watches overall with comparable fiery brilliance.

Salty seas and briny back waters rise, pause, and fall in tidal turnings. Under ever-changing skies, the Earth's rotation joins these natural daily rhythms.
